2010 Death Ride

Chris, Brian, and Myself arriving at Gregg and Toms campsite Saturday afternoon. We already stopped by the starting area, checked in and grabbed our numbers and Death Ride bottles.

The Campsite rules only allow tents in the little sand box so we had to share the one Massive tent. It also looks like Tom is a little worn out from all that fishing him and Gregg got in the last two days.

Chris wasn't allowed to setup his tent so he positioned his Queen size air mattress dead center leaving Brian and me a Very small and snug slot to ether side. The spacing didn't matter much since it was way to hot to sleep.

Everyone showing off there jerseys and ride numbers. From the left you have Gregg, Chris, Tom, Brian, and Jason(ME)

A couple quick pics as we are climbing monitor pass and first time.

Look closely at the far side of the valley and you'll see the tiny string of riders on the other side.

Gregg and Tom finishing Monitor Pass

Chris and Brian finishing Monitor Pass that's 1 down 4 to go.

Gregg, Tom , and Chris at the monitor Pass aid Station after climbing back up. Brian passed us here opting not to stop. 2 down 3 to go.

Gregg, Tom, and myself climbing Ebbetts pass Photo by Chris. Notice Tom's smile is gone.

I sprinted ahead to find a good spot to take a picture and ended up stopping and the Pirates aid station for more water meanwhile everyone continued up the climb. First I caught Chris pulled over stretching to avoid cramping. Then I passed Tom who said he wasn't filling all that great. Ebbetts is the hardest climb of the ride and I didn't catch Gregg until nearly to top. I think he was still chasing me since no one seen me pull over for water at the bottom.

Tom finishing up Ebbetts Pass #1. That's 3 down and 2 to go.

After heading down Ebbetts back side we turned around and headed strait back up. This for me was the hardest climb of the day. It might have been because of the steep grade, or that I pushed hard up Ebbetts front side to catch Gregg(who was chasing Me), or maybe the fact the Gregg was now Kicking my ass and steadily pulling away. We stopped at the top to regroup and snap a pic of the Ebbetts Pass Sign. That's 4 down 1 to go.

At the bottom of Ebbetts is the lunch stop we all eat as much as we could stomach. after sucking down gels all day most of the riders had stomach issues.

The Lunch stop was very busy probably over 1,000 bike at any give time.

Here I am at the Top of Carson Pass enjoying my promised Ice Cream Bar. I was the first of our group to finish so I just kicked back and waited for everyone else to trickle in.

Gregg coming into the finish getting his last of 5 passes sticker.

Tom coming in muttering something about he'll never do this again(sure till next year).

All five of us at the Carson Pass Sign before heading bake down the cars.
That's 5 of 5 down.
